Geo Gecko, the Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team (HOT), ITHACA and MapUganda have teamed up together for this project.
The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS), the Kampala Capital City Authority, the Office of the Prime Minister of Uganda, Department of Disaster Preparedness and Management.
Workshops and on-site training for central and local government office staff on OSM-related tools, mapping workflows, data collection mobile apps and data models.
Remote and field mapping of key priority areas in Kampala identified by the Government of Uganda, to collect disaster risk management related data and information.
Introduce the use of innovative technology such as Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) and street-level photo mapping to local government staff and community members.
Piloting the operational exploitation of UAV technologies to acquire high resolution imagery, leveraging on existing tool for a proper data sharing (e.g. OpenAerialMap).
Significantly increased coverage and accuracy of OSM data in target areas in Kampala
Developed technical capacity of Government of Uganda staff and community member in using open mapping tools
Demonstrated use of innovative imaging technologies for supporting community mapping activities
Showcasing the mapping and analytical power of the data collected
Interactive maps to illustrate the overall mapped area, with statistics of mapping activity (e.g. km of mapped roads, number of buildings, etc).
